Text Messaging Helping NJ Voters Get to Polls in Aftermath of Storm: Text WHERE to 877-877

Text Messaging Helping NJ Voters Get to Polls In Aftermath of Storm

Text WHERE To 877-877; Mobile Commons Provides Polling Place Locator to State of New Jersey

Voters in storm-ravaged New Jersey will be helped to polling places – some of which have been moved due to the storm – by a text message polling place locator provided pro bono to the State by mobile strategy company Mobile Commons. The State is providing continually updated data on polling places in areas that have been impacted by the storm. Voters can also vote at the Clerk’s Office in locations where normal polling places are not available.

The polling place locator is extremely easy to use. Voters simply text in their home address and Mobile Commons software automatically responds with the address and hours of their polling place. Try it! Text WHERE to 877877 to find out where to vote.

“The devastation caused by this storm doesn’t have to disrupt our democratic process, and the polling place locator will make it easier for New Jersey voters to find their polling places,” said Jed Alpert, CEO of Mobile Commons.

Nearly 2 million voters failed to vote in 2008 simply because they didn’t know the location of their polling place. This is expected to be an even more crucial issue this election season with hundreds of thousands of voters also grappling with the confusion of redistricting, and now the added impact of Sandy on the East Coast.

Mobile Commons is making its Mobile Polling Place Locator available to organizations across the country in both English and Spanish. Dozens of non-profit, voting rights and advocacy groups are expected to use the Polling Place Locator to help drive their constituents to the polls this November.
