Last month, we featured the Knight Foundation’s Mobile Grant Challenge. The Foundation is awarding $5 million in funding to organizations that “harness mobile technology to inform and engage communities.” Well, we’re delighted that one of our customers – the National Alliance for Hispanic Health – is a semifinalist!
The NAHH is being considered for their Buena Salud club, which texts out health care information to the Hispanic community. As the NAHH’s application describes it:Members will opt-in to receive the latest in health tools and information (text messages, 1-minute online videos, and links to Buena Salud ebooks and resources), share in their social networks, use geo-tools to locate community health services, or directly connect toll-free to a bilingual health promotion advisor that can deliver tailored information and connect callers to services where they live.
The NAHH’s application also offers a reminder of how important this work truly is. “Hispanics are less likely to receive information in the language and cultural context needed to support their health and well-being,” they write. By making that information readily available over text, the NAHH can help millions of people live healthier lives.
We want to wish them good luck moving forward with the grant process!
