Mobile is Spam Free

There’s almost no such thing as text messaging spam. The wireless carriers such as AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint control who gets to send messages to mobile phones and if they see suspicious messages or large volume, it’s easy to shut them down — it’s a very different world than email marketing.

Spam Free Mobile Marketing

Because there is no spam, it means that people keep their phone within arms reach 24/7 and that over 95% of all text messages are read by the recipient. It means that your message won’t get lost in the noise of spam and that if you deliver something compelling and actionable, you will be blown away by the way people respond. At Mobile Commons, we consistently see response rates above 50% when there are clear calls to action.

Beware of Sending SMS Like Email

As mentioned above, SMS text messages are spam free because the carriers act as gatekeepers. However, some companies offer mobile platforms that don’t send text messages through the telecom carriers. Instead, they send their text messages through an email gateway — something like 6460001234@vtext.com.

When sending text messages through an email gateway, the messages are often delivered late, if they are delivered at all all. Additionally, if messages are sent through an email gateway with any significant volume (more than a thousand or so at a time), the carriers can shut down the illegitimate form of traffic.

To make sure that you’re partnering with somebody that can deliver your messages on time and not get marked as spam, a good first question is to ask them if they use a carrier-approved short code or if they just use an email gateway.

Mobile Commons has invested in top flight infrastructure so that your messages are always timely and we give you many ways to make them more actionable. We’ve found that it’s only slightly more expensive to do it this way, but makes for a better experience all the way around and that means better results that are actually cheaper on a per end-user basis.
