The Knight Foundation is distributing $5 million in funding to breakthrough ideas that “harness mobile technology to inform and engage communities.” In addition to financial aid, the grants will give their winners access to Knight’s network of advisors and industry leaders. So if you’ve got a great concept for crowd-sourcing local news-gathering over SMS – or you want to develop a text message alert system to keep your constituents informed – you should apply now to submit your idea. The deadline is next Monday, September 10th.
