CellphoneMoney

Mobile messaging can be a powerful and effective way to raise money. But there’s more to mobile fundraising than a text to give campaigns. Below are five ways to use mobile to increase your revenues.

1) Text to Give

Text to give is the most well known form of mobile giving.  Users text in a keyword to donate $5 or $10 to your organization by having the donation amount added to their cell phone bills.* Text-to-give can be highly effective in specific situations – for example, around disaster relief, or when your organization has a celebrity spokesperson.

  • 9% of Americans have texted in donations in the past year
  • 73% of these donors contributed on the same day they heard about the campaign
  • 43% of donors encouraged friends or family to give as well

2) Send a Link to a Web Page

If you already have a mobile web page that supports credit card donations, you can text out a fully-trackable and shortened (to save you on your character counts) link to your list. People can then access your donation page right from their phones.

3) Fill Out Your Web Page In Advance

If you already have your users’ credit card information, our system can send your users to a web form that’s already been filled out. Make it even simpler for them to donate to your organization.  Mobile Commons uses secure encryption technologies to make sure that your users’ private information is never at risk.

4) Ask People to Make a Pledge

If you don’t want to ask for donations now, why not ask your users to pledge for later? Our system can keep track of how much people pledge so that you can remind them later with a more formal fundraising request.

5) Send an SMS Reminder to Support Email Outreach

We’ve found that supporters who receive a text reminder in addition to an email are up to 77% more likely to donate. Send a text message broadcast to your list that reminds people of the importance of your mission.
