Hear our own Jim Colgan interviewed on Journalism.co.uk’s weekly media podcast, which they recorded while Jim was in London to speak to a crowd of like-minded digital pioneers at the Mozilla open web festival.
Correspondent Sarah Marshall chats with Jim about two of Mobile Commons’ success stories: the recent earthquake preparedness map we created with KALW radio, and the snow map that WNYC radio and Mobile Commons created during the blizzard of 2010 to report the conditions of snowed-in New York streets. In addition to explaining in detail how the maps were set up, Jim shares tidbits about some of the additional features of the WNYC campaign: “We also had an audio component – we had them text back a keyword that triggered a phone call – which also was attached to the message on the map, which we could use on the air… we sort of crowdsourced the listener stories, too.”
