With the recent threat of cuts to benefits like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid looming, groups like AARP have been spurred to action. As I wrote last week, AARP was able to quickly drive in over 10,000 calls within the first few days by asking supporters on their mobile list to make a phone call. We thought this was a huge response, but AARP wasn’t satisfied – they decided to turn up the heat.
The television ad below debuted last week, urging people to make a phone call to protect Social Security:
As of today, nearly 50,000 calls have been made! [Update: That number has now climbed to 123,000.] In addition to the first rapid response wave of calls, the total reaches over 63,000 phone calls in 7 days. Not too shabby.
Before the commercial launched, Mobile Commons worked with AARP to develop a feature that allowed callers to press “1″ to reach the White House comment line and press “2″ to reach the Congressional switchboard. By spreading out the calls and comments, AARP has ensured that their supporters’ voices are heard both in the Oval Office and in the halls of Congress.
Have you made your call yet?
